Last month, forecasted extreme weather conditions forced Boardmasters Festival to cancel the event hours before gates opened at Watergate Bay, Cornwall. The cancellation made national news, and many disgruntled festivalgoers took to social media channels to express their dismay at the situation.
Boardmasters Festival was not the only event to cancel this Summer as Houghton Festival, Rewind North and Chester Pride also cancelled because of bad weather. Although each event was different, the safety of customers, crew and contractors was top priority.
Outdoor events and festivals are challenging and unpredictable. Even when conditions, locations and time of year are working in an event's favour, there's still a chance bad weather can dramatically impact site safety and force the event to postpone or cancel.
Unfortunately, when organising an outdoor event or festival, preparing for bad weather is unavoidable, and it's essential to have a contingency plan in place regarding all conditions including adverse weather and extreme heat.
Weatherproof event structures
At The Events Structure, we have noticed an increase in clients requesting for a weatherproof event structure for their event, particularly after enduring one of the wettest Summers on record.
Event shipping containers are strong, sturdy and secure, preventing wind and water from causing damage to the event space and its contents. With independent power supply for air conditioning and heating, event shipping containers are usable in all weathers.
Further, event shipping containers feature spreader pads to distribute the weight of the container evenly without damaging the ground. By doing so, each event shipping container is anchored and secure in all weathers and on all ground types.
Recently, Co-Op Food used one of our Gallery event shipping containers at Reading Festival to weatherproof their vending machine activation. By using the event shipping container, the vending machines were usable and protected in all weather conditions.
To accommodate this strong demand for weatherproof event structures, earlier this year we introduced the Impact Premium to our all-round fleet. Impact Premium is a multi-level shipping container structure with a concealed roof. The unique activation provides an exceptional environment for a unique additional consumer activation area without the compromise of rain.
