The national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), headed for the fast lane at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix Thursday, 6th to Sunday, 9th July, hosting a pop-up padel experience for fans to come and play with friends, family and special guests.
Based in the Family Zone at one of the biggest weekends in the F1 calendar, the experience aimed to introduce new audiences of all ages and abilities to the innovative form of tennis and encourage more people to pick up a racket and play at their nearest courts.
Padel is a very popular sport among many drivers on the grid. Ferarri stars Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have been known to play against each other in their spare time away from the racetrack - as featured in the Netflix series, 'Drive to Survive'.
Padel fever has taken over at many of the other teams as well, with McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar PIastri also big fans of the sport, as well as two-time champion Fernando Alonso and American Logan Sargent.
Guest appearances that participated in the experience included British No.1 Tia Norton, Louie Harris, Catherine Rose, Aimee Gibson and Francis Langan.
The British Grand Prix took place at the same time as the Wimbledon Championships, where the sport is a hot topic for conversation.
