So, you're considering hiring or buying a shipping container conversion, but you're unsure whether there's enough space for your event application? Perhaps you only have a certain amount of space on-site for your event shipping container, and you don't know whether it will be a good fit?
Shipping container constructions must follow the strict ISO international standards for each shipping container type and dimensions. However, shipping containers come in an array of sizes and to answer the question, "how big is a shipping container?" we must look at width, length, and height.
Width
At The Events Structure, our shipping container conversion configurations use two types of containers: ISO shipping containers and High Cube. Both shipping container types feature the same international width of 2,440 mm.
Length
Typically, when buying a shipping container, they are sold by length - therefore, a '20 ft shipping container' would be 20 ft in length. Although shipping containers are available in different sizes, the most common dimensions are 20 ft and 40 ft.
At The Events Structure, all our shipping container conversion configurations are 20 ft shipping containers measuring 6,096 mm.
Height
Shipping container heights are generalised as standard or High Cube. What shipping container conversion configuration you opt for will influence the height measurement of the construction. An ISO container measures 2,590 mm, whereas a High Cube is slightly taller, measuring 2,900 mm.
The internal space
The floor space for each shipping container measures 160.10 ft², providing ample space for all types of applications. A good rule of thumb is to accommodate 6ft² for each guest. Following this rule, each container would allow for 26 standing guests.
If more space is required to accommodate more guests, we have several different container conversion configurations that utilise one or more shipping containers.
The shipping containers are more spacious than they first appear at first glance. Just look at this photograph taken of the Impact upper deck terrace. Client Everleaf has spaciously placed tables around the container floor, effectively utilising the space for maximum attendees and comfort.
Custom build shipping container conversions
If you're looking for a different sized shipping container conversion, we can modify shipping container conversions to the customer's request with our custom-build service.
At The Events Structure, we have created several custom-build shipping container configurations. One such project was this bespoke container cafe, built converting a 10ft donor shipping container to measure 2.44 x 3.05 x 2.59 metres to fit in the intended development's space.
