Shipping containers are modular, adaptable, mobile, and nearly indestructible structures. Due to their flexibility and durability, more and more brands are repurposing shipping containers as bespoke pop-up venues for events.
Bespoke container conversions for events are specifically designed to suit your brand and are adaptable to your exact requirements, lending themselves perfectly to an endless number of applications.
Shipping container conversions are ideal structures for all events, but what goes into building a customised container event environment?
Preparation: refurbishment and maintenance
Maintenance care is essential to shipping container conversions. At The Events Structure, we carry out our refurbishment and maintenance work over the winter period, our quieter period for events, preparing them ahead of the busy spring/summer outdoor event season.
Along with any essential refurbishment work, all shipping container conversions are sandblasted and given a fresh coat of paint to look their best for the event season ahead.
Sandblasting
Every winter, we sandblast each of our containers back to their original metalwork. The process that involves using a jet of sand driven by compressed air removes previous paintwork and any minor wear.
The sandblaster reaches all places of the container, even hidden nooks in the corrugation frame, ensuring the shipping container has a smooth surface for the paint to be reapplied effortlessly.
Paintwork
After our shipping container conversions have undergone blasting, we apply a fresh coat of industrial-grade paint to give the customised containers a hard yet shiny finish.
The paint is coated indoors on our compound to ensure the pigment sets correctly. If applied outside, water could become trapped beneath the paint, creating blister-like pockets.
Depending on the product type, the customised container is finished in white or black paint.
Design: construction, branding and fabrication
At The Events Structure, we understand how you display your company matters, and branding is one of the most powerful marketing tools. That's why we're on hand to offer our expertise and execute your vision while meeting all regulations.
The design process ensures our prepared shipping container conversions can be customised to your brand and fabricated to your purpose.
Construction
With shipping container conversion constructions, the sky is the limit. Our customised container range is a selection of 20" ISO shipping containers converted and engineered to open and look different. As shipping containers are stackable, we have multi-deck options available too.
For bigger or smaller constructions, custom-build shipping container conversions are possible. Through custom build, the standard dimensions of the ISO shipping container are changeable through modification.
Branding
Our favourite branding material is the vinyl wrap, as it is flexible and allows quick turnaround between client projects. Vinyl wraps come in multiple sizes, designs and shapes, making the container stand out and be on-brand.
Essentially a large sticker, vinyl wraps are weather-resistant and applied directly over the container, allowing you to change the appearance of the container for a short period, removing the wrap when the event is over.
Fabrication
If a client's brief requires fabrication, we will conduct this on-site at our compound. We often advise against standard materials found in traditional construction that may weaken the original structure of the shipping container. Instead, our fabrication team will utilise alternative materials, where possible, that are lighter, stronger and withstand travel.
We also fit out our customised containers on our compound, evaluating every aspect of the container's internal environment, ensuring they can travel. Internal fit-out includes carpentry, lighting, technology, appliances, furniture, decor, branding and signage.
Execution: transportation and activation
When the customised shipping container has been branded and fitted, exteriorly and internally, the next stage is transporting and loading the customised container on location for the execution of your event.
Transporting the shipping container conversion requires great planning and logistics management to ensure the arrival and deployment of the structure is timely.
Transportation
Trailers will be required to transport the customised container to the event location. Transportation pricing is dependent on the number of trucks to haul your projects to the venue and not the number of containers in your project.
At the Events Structure, we will always try to minimise the number of trailers used during deployment, ensuring the project is as cost-effective as possible.
Activation
Once at your location, you will need to off-load your customised container of the trailer into place. There are a few different methods to do this:
- Self-offloading is the easiest method of off-loading your shipping container on-site. Also known as a rollback, self-offloading is possible when there's only one container on the trailer.
- Cranes are our preferred choice of use. Cranes lift the shipping container conversion off the trailer and into place. • Forklifts are used when there is not enough room for a self-offloading trailer or crane.
- Hydraulics are used for our Showroom customised container, allowing the activation to be placed on the most uneven sites.
Creating shipping container conversions for events is a lot like building a car. A practical structure with standard features will be less expensive than a multi-deck structure with fabrication.
Many factors affect the price of a shipping container conversion project, including equipment and accessories, size and scope, design and engineering, modification and fabrication, branding and customisation, logistics and transportation.
